New Web Site Mapping Tool Set to Take Away Web Rage

Web-rage caused by the frustration of surfing in the dark is set to be a thing of the past with the launch of an exciting new web site mapping tool from Scottish software developers, Electrum Multimedia.

The Edinburgh-based company has created the powerful and sophisticated, PowerMapper, which, through its HTML exploring and mapping capabilities, provides exceptional visualisation and, therefore, greater levels of orientation and easier navigation through websites.

PowerMapper has been developed to overcome the problems associated with the increased size and complexity of Internet and intranet sites, enabling webmasters and IT managers easier maintenance of rapidly changing, multi-input web sites whilst eradicating the frustration experienced by users when searching through pages and pages of unwanted information.

Mark Rogers of Electrum, who developed the software, says: "Anyone who has ever created a web site knows how difficult they are to build and maintain. PowerMapper automatically follows and analyses the links on web sites and creates a simple, user-friendly, visual map containing thumbnail page images of an entire site. Once a map has been created, it can then be edited and incorporated into any web site. Each map is standard HTML which can be uploaded to the site.

"As more and more corporations build extensive intranets, the problem of keeping them updated and accurate is becoming an infuriating task. PowerMapper is an ideal tool for webmasters and IT managers to utilise - it saves time, and, therefore, increases efficiency, productivity and cost effectiveness.

"After the first two or three hours of management time has been saved, PowerMapper has more than paid for itself! "

Running on Windows NT and 95, PowerMapper requires Internet Explorer 3.0 or above. Maps can be viewed on any web browser and do not require Java or a plug-in. PowerMapper can be downloaded from Electrum's web site for $99. A free evaluation copy is also available at http://www.electrum.co.uk

Stuart Harper, former chair of the Interactive Media Alliance Scotland and joint founder of Electrum, says: "We set up Electrum to solve the problems encountered by today's IT/multimedia users. By developing bespoke tools, applications and applets we can solve specific problems for users, saving them time and, therefore, money!

"Scotland's global standing for technological ingenuity and innovation is long established and its growing reputation for software development and product reliability should ensure a bright future for Scotland in the IT age. We believe PowerMapper will prove a worthy and credible addition to its portfolio - if Columbus was alive today he would be using it!"
