W. Green, the Scottish law publishing company of Sweet & Maxwell, has specialised in high-quality legal publishing for well over a century, publishing an unrivalled collection of books, periodicals and encyclopaedias on Scots law as well as digital products. The distinct nature and status of the Scottish legal system is fully reflected in all its publications.
The ProblemW. Green originally commissioned a supplier to produce a web site providing an on-line catalogue and e-commerce system, with the ability to remotely update the catalogue.
Unfortunately, the web site suffered from numerous serious problems - most notably updating the catalogue often stopped the e-commerce system working.
As a result of these problems, they looked for another supplier to produce a manageable, database-driven solution.
The SolutionElectrum re-engineered the web site by implementing a reliable, database-driven e-commerce system, thus solving the reliability, quality and management problems experienced by the previous site. |

The full e-commerce solution includes:
- On-line shopping catalogue with integrated sorting, searching, shopping basket
- Full remote administration and modification of site via web browser
- User interaction including mailing lists and discussion forums
- Automatic conversion of SGML/XML data into HTML
Outcome
The client is delighted with the system, site traffic is at an all-time high and they are now receiving orders on-line.
